MARCIA OTACILIA SEVERA, the daughter of Severus, Governor of Pannonia.  She married Philip I, the Arab, about AD 234, and bore their child, Marcus Julius Severus Philippus (Philip II) in AD 237.  Her husband was killed in battle in September of 249 and her son was killed shortly thereafter by the Praetorian Guard.  We are uncertain as to Otacilia's fate.  She was either killed with her son by the guardsmen or lived out her days in retirement.

Recent Changes

9 December 2007 - A new coin from the Alexandria mint, this one from year three.

22 March 2007 - Two new Otacilia from Deultum, the first with the unusual obverse legend "M OTACILIAE SEVERA AVG".

13 February 2006 - A new Otacilia, this one a nice coin from Dacia.

10 February 2006 - A new Otacilia from Deultum, this one Nemesis holding bridle and rod, brings her total to 8 for Deultum and 10 overall for provincials.  Still a long ways to go.

6 December 2005 - Added one new Otacilia provincial from Deultum, this one unlisted in any of my references.  It has a Fortuna reverse holding globe and rudder.

1 October 2005 - Added three new Otacilia provincials from Deultum and finally separated her provincial coins from the Philip I listings.
